Saxo Bank was originally founded by Kim Fournais and Lars Seier Christensen in 1992 under the name Midas. In 2001, Midas became a fully licensed and regulated European bank and was renamed Saxo Bank. Since then, many have wondered who – or what – is “Saxo”?
Saxo - rooted in Danish tradition
While recognised worldwide as a specialist in online trading and investment, Saxo Bank is a proudly Danish institution. The name Saxo Bank honours one of Denmark’s most revered figures, Saxo Grammaticus, the medieval scholar and historian who first chronicled the history of the Danish people.
Written originally in the thirteenth century, Saxo Grammaticus’ “The Story of the Danes” combines myth, legend and history into a landmark cultural work. Today, the name of this historical icon lives on through Saxo Bank, headquartered in Copenhagen with offices throughout Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Australia.
